Benefits of Oil Filtration

  • Eliminates Contaminates of Oil such as Solid particles like rusk, scale, dust and fibres.
  • Elimination of carbon particles due to ageing in switch gears.
  • Elimination of dissolved moistures.
  • Elimination of absorption of gases.
  • Reduce Sludge formation.
  • Increase in acidity level.
Why Oil Filtration is required?
Why Oil Filtration is required?

Almost 75% of the transformer failures happen due to contaminated and deteriorated oil. Transformer oil is liable to absorb un-acceptable contaminants formed inside high voltage instruments due to development of ageing products. Such as-

  • Formation of acids due to chemical decomposition.
  • Oxidation,
  • Formation of gases.
  • Electrical stresses,
  • Thermal stresses,
  • Effect of oxidation products.
  • Moisture,
  • Solid matters like dust, fibers, metallic particles, varnish and sludge.
  • Any kind of physical contamination as a result of leakage in the encloser of the instrument.

So, it is most important to filter the transformer oil regularly through Our Transformer Oil Filtration Services in which our special designed Ultra-High Vacuum Oil Filtration Machine is used with proper procedure as per IS-6034-1989 and IS-1866-2000 and by our skill employees.

Ignorance can lead to:

  • Arcing
  • Overheating, which reduces electrical efficiency as well as the life of the transformer
  • Corona Discharges
  • Decrease in insulating strength of the transformer oil & Etc
General Oil Filtration Process

Contaminated Insulating Oil is sucked into the system from the Inlet Line or the Oil Top Up line & passes through SS Wire-mesh Inlet Strainer where any solid particle above 1 mm size is trapper to protect gear pump from damage.

  • Oil is then pumped by the Inlet Gear Pump through the 100µ Bag Type Filter &25µ Bag Filter.
  • The indirect type Heat Exchanger heats up the Oil to 53˚C (heat distribution rate of not more than 1.6 watt/cm2 is maintained). The Heat Exchanger is controlled by PID Temperature Controller to ensure gradual & efficient heat distribution.
  • Oil can then be forwarded through IONIC REACTION COLUMN (IRC) for acidity correction.
  • Oil enters to Fine Filtration chambers where particulate contamination above 5µ size is trapped & separate oil using non-hygroscopic filter cartridges. There after the partly processed oil enters Ultra-Fine Filtration chamber where particulate contamination of above 0.45µ size is removed using specialized absolute rated filter cartridges to achieve NAS 1638 CLSS 6 ISO 11/8-5/12 level of particulate contamination count.
  • Extraction of Moisture & Gas takes place through Vacuum Dehydration & Degasification process at Semi-Double Stage Degassing Chambers by FIBERGLASS COALESCING TECHNOLOGY & Racing- Rig Methodology. Here moisture content in oil is reduced up to 83% in single pass.
  • Now in order to propel the density of extracted moistures towards the vacuum suction line we use low watt density heaters inside the degasification & dehydration chamber. The heaters, heat up the surrounding environment to 60˚C, this in turn becomes comparatively less dense and rises upwards creating cyclical flow pattern. The entire set up ensures minimum re-absorption of extracted water molecules into the processed oil inside the degassing chamber.
  • The purified oil now passes through a Foam Trap to the Outlet Centrifugal Pump which discharges the oil into the connected reservoir or transformer tank.
